Changing Perceptions of Body Modification

Body modification has never received the acceptance that those who practice would like; however, there has been an increase in the manner in which people with body modification are viewed in the community. In a research carried in 2002 by Catherine M. Kahl from Loyola University in New Orleans indicates that many people in the society do not have negative feelings about the people with body modification. In fact, it indicated that people think that people with body modification are viewed as being more open-minded and able to accept change more easily than people who do not have those body modifications.

In this research people were given images of people with tattoos, body piercing, body plugs, and other forms of body modification and asked to choose between five traits which included openness, neuroticism, extraversion, conscientiousness, and agreeableness. The research also showed that a great number of people viewed people with body modification as being more masculine than those without. With such results and the changing perception of people with body modification, it shows that people are becoming more aware of these types of body modification and they are not necessary seen as a taboo or unacceptable behavior as it has been before.

One such company that has decided to take this a notch higher is the BMA Modified which deals with the manufacture of organic plugs for body modification. They offer different forms of organic plugs including custom plugs and stone plugs which are some of the most popular types of body modification. BMA Modified has taken a lot of time in researching different types of body modification and especially the type of body plugs that are popular with the people. Custom plugs and stone plugs are popularly sold on their website bmamodified.com.
